Kinetic, STV agree formats venture STV Productions, the production arm of Scottish broadcaster STV Group, has signed a formats swap deal with US prodco Kinetic Content. The partnership will see the companies exclusively license each other's original formats in their respective countries. In addition, the two companies will work together to develop formats to be pitched to broadcasters in both the UK and the US. STV and Kinetic are currently hiring Los Angeles-based staff to work with on joint projects for both companies. STV will have a dedicated member of staff based at Kinetic's headquarters. STV director of content Alan Clements said: "Kinetic is an exciting business with a very talented and experienced team, and we look forward to developing STV's global presence and sharing formats with them going forward." Chris Coelen, CEO of Kinetic Content, added: "With a passionate team of creative talent and the resources of the most popular commercial broadcaster in Scotland, STV's unique market position makes them a terrific partner with whom to launch worldwide entertainment properties." The deal comes after Kinetic last week partnered with 4Rights, the rights exploitation arm of UK terrestrial Channel 4, allowing the broadcaster to cherry-pick US series scripts. C4's LA-based programme acquisition consultant, Crispin Leyser, will work with Kinetic to cultivate original 13-part drama series and event miniseries. Adam Benzine 29 Jul 2010 © C21 Media 2010
