Canvas appoints CTO, marketing head Things look full steam ahead for the UK IPTV initiative Project Canvas, with the partners behind the initiative appointing heads of technology and marketing. The Canvas initiative - a joint project between the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Five, BT, Talk Talk and latest partner Arquiva - has appointed Anthony Rose and Tim Hunt as chief technology officer and head of marketing, respectively. Rose joins the proposed venture from the BBC, where he is currently Future Media controller for Vision and Online Media Group. Before that, he was the Corporation's head of digital.Hunt takes up his position from Freeview, where he was director of marketing and communications. He was also marketing director of Canvas' predecessor Project Kangaroo, which was canned last year after lobbying from BSkyB and Virgin Media. The appointments come as Canvas's partners revealed they are giving any parties considering joining the JV until April 23 to declare their interest. Channel 4 and Talk Talk gave their commitment on December 16, when the BBC Trust gave its interim approval, while media services group Arqiva jumped on board last Monday, as reported by C21. The Trust is set to give its final verdict on the project in due course. The Canvas partners are also awaiting a response from the Office of Fair Trading, having laid out their argument that the JV does not constitute a merger, as rivals claim.
