Wii continues to boost iPlayer numbers The Nintendo Wii now accounts for 4% of all BBC iPlayer video viewing - the same proportion as the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, new figures from the UK public broadcaster reveal. The BBC released a new Wii-compatible version of the iPlayer last November and it has now been installed on over one million Nintendo games consoles. The device has quickly risen to become almost as popular a means of accessing the BBC catch-up TV service as the Sony PS3. Together, the two devices now account for 10% of iPlayer TV programme requests, as of February, the BBC said, equating to 8.1 million out of 86.5 million total video requests. IPhone and iPod Touch devices accounted for 3.1 million views. Overall, including radio, the iPlayer had 116.4 million requests in February, a slight dip from 120.3 million a month earlier. Use of iPlayer on the Virgin Media cable TV platform has also trailed off. Last summer, it accounted for more than a quarter of all iPlayer TV viewing but this dipped to 21% in February.
