ITV denies Hulu UK a done deal ITV has rejected reports that it is about to take a 25% stake in a UK joint venture with US online video service Hulu, which is backed by NBC Universal, News Corp and Disney. Speculation that ITV is close to a deal with Hulu has been mounting all year, but a report in Media Week claimed today that it will be signed this month, with ITV getting 25% of Hulu UK as a result. The UK trade magazine claimed that disagreements between the two parties have been resolved and a "happy compromise" has been reached, but an ITV spokeswoman rejected this today."There is no deal. Our position hasn't changed from a couple of months ago," the spokeswoman told C21. "We're talking to a number of people about the best opportunity for shortform and longform, but we haven't placed our bets yet and we're not about to announce anything. (The report) is highly speculative." The spokeswoman confirmed ITV is in talks with Hulu, along with Google and other companies, but said nothing had been finalised. Hulu has been in talks with UK broadcasters for over a year, initially looking to the now-defunct Project Kangaroo consortium that included ITV, BBC Worldwide and Channel 4. However, the latter last month signed a landmark longform deal with YouTube, although this was non-exclusive. Hulu is understood to be seeking exclusivity with its content partners.
