Tesco launches video download service UK supermarket giant Tesco has beta-launched a video download-to-own service offering television shows and films from companies such as Warner Bros and Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI). From today, consumers can buy TV and films from Tesco Digital, the company's digital entertainment site, which launched in April selling music. Customers will be able to download TV shows at £1.87 (US$2.82) per episode and films at £6.97 for a catalogue film and £10.97 for a new release. In the coming months, Tesco Digital will also offer films on a download-to-rent basis. Tesco commercial director Graham Harris said: "We said back in April when we launched our site that our aim for the new Tesco Digital site was for it to be more than just a music download portal - we wanted to create an exciting and easy-to-use entertainment shop that Tesco customers of all technical ability can use and trust. This next development confirms we are doing just that." SPTI and Warner Bros are Tesco Digital's launch partners and will provide the introductory TV and film offering on the site, with Technicolor hosting and delivering the content through its Prisma platform. The initial range of TV and film downloads will be added to in the coming weeks and months as further partners come onboard. The only confirmed TV title so far is Warner Bros' Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, episodes of which will be available a day after they have aired on TV.
