YouTube scores live Indian cricket YouTube has made its first move into the live sporting arena, securing rights to the world's biggest cricket tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL), for the next two years. Under the deal between Google and IPL licensor Global Cricket Ventures, YouTube will stream all 60 of the 45-day tournament's matches live around the globe, except in the US, where rights are being withheld for TV. Google and IPL will jointly share in the revenue from advertising and sponsorship, both on YouTube and on the cricket league's own website. The tournament kicks off on March 12 in Hyderabad. YouTube will be making special content available, including different viewer cams so that fans can choose the angle they watch the action from. "This unique initiative by IPL to partner Google India will give the league a global reach on a single distribution platform," said IPL chairman Lalit Modi. "This will allow IPL fans anywhere in the world to view the action on-demand at their convenience, thus making the new dedicated IPL channel on YouTube the biggest virtual stadium in the world." 20 Jan 2010 © C21 Media 2010 C21 Home | FutureMedia Home | Printer Friendly | Email a Friend |
