Sony Ericsson, Veveo mine mobile video Sony Ericsson mobile phone users will have access to millions of videos from the likes of YouTube, DailyMotion, and MySpace after the company partnered with mobile web video specialist Veveo. The mobile handset manufacturer is using Veveo's vTap service to simplify its customers' access to the mobile internet, search and view the vast quantities of video available.YouTube, DailyMotion, and MySpace are just a few sources from which Sony Ericsson handset owners will be able to watch video. US-headquartered Veveo claims its service offers up 150 million web videos. The company, which also has a UK office, is attempting to overcome the slow uptake of mobile video experienced in many markets, partly due to network capacity and in part a result of operator restrictions. The Sony Ericsson-Veveo tie-up will mean a vTap button will be added to the handset manufacturer's web portal, effectively providing another avenue to access video beyond the 'deck' that's controlled by network operators. Veveo has a similar deal in place with Motorola. The vTap service is offered free, aside from the mobile phone owners' usual data charges, and the company is exploring ad models as part of its strategy moving forwards. Vtap offers a continually updated index of available web videos through which a user can collect, organise and share as they like, with the service logging what a person likes to watch and saves their favourites. "Video is the future of the mobile internet – users will soon turn to video for the majority of their entertainment and information needs," said Veveo VP of strategy and business development Guru Pai.
