Gambino out in MTV UK restructure Angel Gambino, the head of all things digital in the UK for MTV Networks, has left the company apparently with no job to go to, after a corporate restructure. In her 16 months as VP of commercial strategy and digital media at the company Gambino oversaw the UK launches of digital initiatives such as video-on-demand service MTV Overdrive and MTV Flux, the company's user-generated-content move. She also licensed TV content such as Punk'd and Pimp My Ride to emerging platforms such as BT Vision, and spun off mobile services from MTV Networks channels Paramount Comedy and Nickelodeon. MTV Networks UK will now divide Gambino's former role into three separate positions, and the Viacom-owned company is now seeking directors of digital media, commercial and strategy, all reporting to Heather Jones, senior VP of comedy and music. "Angel has done a great job for us but in order to take our digital strategy to the next stage we need new directors to focus on each of her three areas," an MTV Networks representative told C21. Before arriving at MTV in summer 2005 Gambino was controller of business development and emerging platforms at the BBC, overseeing the move of the pubcaster's family of channels into the online and mobile spaces. Gambino's exit last Friday follows earlier news, reported C21, that MTV Networks Europe's president and chief executive Simon Guild is quitting the company after 14 years. 25 Jan 2007 © C21 Media 2007 C21 Home | FutureMedia Home | Printer Friendly | Email a Friend |
