Magoo kicks back in ER movie

A revitalised but still partially sighted Mr Magoo is the result of a movie coproduction deal between UK firm Entertainment Rights and Mexico's Anima Estudios and will debut at Mipcom next week.

Kung Fu Magoo (left, 1x80') unites Entertainment Rights (North America), Anima and Motion Toons and will see a theatrical released in Mexico in 2009. Entertainment Rights will release the feature as a DVD in North America through Genius Products.

The film features voice talent including Cole Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody), Dylan Sprouse and Alyson Stoner (Camp Rock). It features the 59-year-old Magoo character and his 12-year-old nephew as they fight extra-terrestrial baddies in kung fu style.

"With such terrific talent on board and clever storylines, this production will re-introduce Magoo to a new generation of fans," said Doug Schwalbe, executive VP of sales and coroduction at Entertainment Rights North America.

The UK company's US arm was rebranded from Classic Media, which it acquired late in 2006. Classic got hold of the Mr Magoo rights when it merged with Tribune Media Services, the content syndication arm of Chicago-based Tribune Company, in 2005.
