MarVista takes 5

MarVista Entertainment has acquired international distribution rights to a glossy teen movie, riding the wave of demand created by hit Disney movie High School Musical.

Teen comedy Taking 5 follows the antics of two teen idol worshippers who kidnap a famous boy band, played by real US group The Click Five. MarVista has worldwide distribution rights, excluding the UK, where it is repped by Lionsgate UK.

Executive producers are Zygi Kamasa (Bend It Like Beckham) and Hagai Shaham (Mean Creek). The cast has been chosen from a range of other teen shows and includes Christy Carlson Romano (Kim Possible), Daniella Monet (Nancy Drew), Alona Tal (Veronica Mars) and Kate Albrecht (Entourage).

"There is a strong demand in the marketplace right now for movies of this genre, given the success of High School Musical," said MarVista's production and distribution president, Michael Jacobs.

In addition, MarVista has acquired all international distribution rights (excluding Canada) to festive TV movie The Secret of the Nutcracker. Produced by Canada's Joe Media, it has been adapted from ETA Hoffman's classic novel by playwright John Murrell and stars Brian Cox and Helene Joy.

Directed by Eric Till, this new version of the famous Christmas story tell of a 12-year-old's journey to find her father in a Second World War prisoner of war camp with the help of a magical stranger.
