Saban unleashes Dogs on Crosiette MIPCOM JNR: Hollywood Star Dogs is the first new children's programme to come out of Power Ranger and media mogul Haim Saban's new project incubation company, Saban Entertainment Group. Part of Saban Capital Group, Saban Entertainment (SEG) is dedicated to incubating, developing and marketing high-quality family entertainment properties, and is flying to Mipcom this weekend to launch its first new kids project. ![]() For its first virtual studio project, SEG has partnered with Holly Goldberg Sloan, a writer-producer-director who has written screenplays for a variety of family films, including Angels in the Outfield, Made in America and The Big Green. The SEG/Sloan collaboration, called Hollywood Star Dogs, features a troupe of live-action talking dogs portraying classic fairy tales. The new series will take the form of 26 half-hour television episodes. "We were instantly drawn to Hollywood Star Dogs because of the property's innovative take on classic literature," said Joel Andryc, a long-standing Saban associate who is Saban Capital Group's chief creative officer. "With its unique use of live animals and advanced CGI animation to tell timeless tales and other stories, it is a high-quality, distinctive property that lends itself to number of distribution outlets." In creating SEG, Saban and Andryc have also teamed up with Tiny Island Animation, a Singapore-based animation studio led by David Kwok, a veteran leader of the Singapore animation industry. SEG will provide development resources to Tiny Island, which focuses on producing CGI entertainment for international television audiences. A comedic CGI animated series is currently in development and is expected to make its debut in 2007. Explaining the launch of SEG, Andryc said: "In today's new media environment, we plan to capitalise on cutting-edge interactive technologies to engage the youth market. Our audience will discover and experience unique characters and story content through the media outlet they prefer, be it broadcast, cable, VoD, broadband/internet, direct-to-home-video, videogames or mobile devices." The new venture will focus on identifying and creating unique, original intellectual properties and brands capable of being distributed across numerous multi-media platforms and connecting with audiences across a variety of entertainment genres, with a particular focus on new media. 7 Oct 2006 © C21 Media 2006 C21 Home | C21 Kids Home | Printer Friendly | Email a Friend |
