Shine cooks up French MasterChef A French commercial network has commissioned Shine France to adapt popular BBC1 cookery competition format MasterChef – the prodco's first major undertaking since being launched in the summer. Casting for judges and contestants has already begun and the show is set to air on TF1 in 2010 in primetime. The MasterChef format works by pitting amateur chefs against each other in increasingly difficult tasks, with the winner becoming the MasterChef champion. It first aired in the UK in 1990. An Australian version, which aired on Network Ten earlier this year, also proved to be a ratings success, with the final commanding a 77% audience share. Last month, US network Fox announced producer Reveille were developing the format with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey's One Potato Two Potato production team. It will also air next year. Shine France was launched this summer, headed by former Endemol France chief creative officer Thierry Lachkar, who will executive produce the French MasterChef. Lachkar said: "We're thrilled that MasterChef will be Shine France's first commission and aim to replicate its international success for TF1 by adopting a distinctive French approach to this involving and increasingly popular format." TF1 commissioner Laurent Storch added: "MasterChef will be a major show for TF1 in 2010. We are delighted to be not only developing this unique and innovative format but also working with Shine France for the first time."
