New doc conference hits LA Details have been unveiled for Westdoc: The West Coast Documentary and Reality Conference, a new, three-day factual event taking place in LA in September. The event will be held at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Santa Monica, September 14-16, and is designed as a networking and learning experience for producers, directors, network executives and other creators working in the non-fiction, documentary and reality TV sectors. It will offer attendees one-on-one interaction with network buyers, distribution companies and fellow industry leaders by providing a broad cross-section of timely seminars and panel discussions. The event is being jointly-launched by Oscar-nominated producer/director Chuck Braverman, and broadcast distributor and former International Documentary Association president Richard Propper. "Learning and networking, particularly in this dour economic climate, are vital to our industry forging ahead, conceiving and producing more programming," the pair said in a joint statement. "The venue will facilitate introductions and dialogue, as well as promote development and deals. We need an occasion to gather our troops, and we chose LA because it is home to an incredible talent pool." During the first two days of the conference, attendees may select panels from either The Documentary Village or The Reality Village where a wide range of topics will be discussed in a unique and hands-on environment. The third day, PitchFest, will showcase producers from both Villages pitching new programmes to network and development executives in front of a live audience for potential acquisition or coproduction funding. Thom Beers, founder and CEO of Original Productions, will be one of the featured keynote guests. Detailed information about event is available at Thewestdoc.com. 18 Mar 2009 © C21 Media 2009 |
