Military History moves beyond US The Military History Channel is launching in the UK and Ireland following a carriage deal between its owner AETN and BSkyB – the first time the network has appeared as a linear channel outside the US. The factual channel will feature series and specials, covering everything from the history of warfare and great battles to strategy, technology and weaponry. Through use of CGI, the channel puts viewers into the war rooms and battlefields, and also features expert interviews and eyewitness accounts. Military History will feature both UK and international military history programming. New series will include Jetstream (8x60'), a series that follows male and female pilots as they learn to fly and fight in one of the world's most advanced fighter aircraft. Richard Melman, acting MD of The History Channel UK, said: "Military History complements our existing channels by providing a 24/7 channel for those fascinated by the events and technologies that really can be said to have changed the world." The channel will launch in the UK on Monday July 28 on Sky Digital. Operational duties will be handled by The History Channel (UK), a joint venture between BSkyB and AETN. The venture also operates The Biography Channel, Crime & Investigation Network and The History Channel HD. Martin Buxton 7 Jul 2008 © C21 Media 2008 |
