Lee exposes green credentials for Discovery Excess meets moderation and restraint in a new series fronted by US rocker Tommy Lee and hip-hop icon Ludacris, airing this August on Discovery. The heavy carbon footprint of tour-bus-living musicians and the principles of conservation do not seem likely bedfellows – a view Discovery is hoping to challenge with Battleground Earth, a 10-part series bound for its upcoming Planet Green channel. The series challenges Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges and Tommy Lee to "battle against the toxic forces destroying mother earth, attempting to keep their high-wattage acts on an eco-friendly course." Throughout the series the stars will enlist the help of their entourage, celebrity friends and anyone else willing to lend a hand to reel in the duo's impact on the environment. Examples of adversity they must overcome include having to run an empty tour bus on used fat from a fast-food restaurant in the middle of the Texas Panhandle. The series culminates in a 'green carpet' benefit concert at LA's Greek Theatre, featuring both performers and several of their famous friends, organised to support the renewal of LA's Griffith Park, recently devastated by wildfires. The primetime series is being made for Planet Green, a new 'eco-lifestyle' channel that goes live in June. The producer is the Greif Company, creator of the A&E series Gene Simmons' Family Jewels.
