Reelz roles out JFK doc

US cablenet ReelzChannel is marking the 50th anniversary of the death of John F Kennedy with a new documentary exploring his assassination.

JFK: The Smoking Gun (1×120′) will premiere on November 3 and is produced by Canada’s Muse Entertainment and Australian prodco Cordell/Jigsaw/Zapruder.

The documentary is based on work by Australian detective Colin McLaren and Bonar Menninger’s book, Mortal Error: The Shot That Killed JFK. Published in 1992, Menninger claims that a Secret Service agent accidentally fired the fatal shot which killed the US president.

The documentary will also air on Discovery Canada and SBS in Australia, with Zodiak Rights and Cordell/Jigsaw/Zapruder sharing world distribution rights.

Reelz previously broadcast Muse’s The Kennedys (8×60′), a controversial White House-based drama that explored the lives of the Kennedy family, in 2011. The US net is also developing a political miniseries based on J Randy Taraborrelli’s book After Camelot, which follows the Kennedy family from 1968 to the present day.
