Raymond goes local in Poland, Israel

MIPTV: Everybody Loves Raymond is going into local production in Israel and Poland, following the classic 1990s CBS sitcom’s recent adaptation in Russia.

Commercial network TVN in Poland has commissioned 30 episodes of a local version of the show, and Reshet TV in Israel has ordered 33 episodes to air on Channel 2.

Sony Pictures Television (SPT), the distributor of Raymond, will jointly produce both versions with local producers. TVN has previously aired its own version of SPT scripted comedy format The Nanny.

“With the expertise of our producers and the talented local producers joining forces, we’re certain viewers in Poland and Israel will soon love Raymond as much as we do,” said Jeff Lerner, senior VP, international scripted development and production, SPT.

The Raymond format has already been adapted in Russia, where SPT is currently producing 210 episodes of The Voronins for CTC. A Dutch take on the sitcom also started airing in Holland on RTL4 in February.
