Project Runway set for return to Bravo

Project Runway originally aired on Bravo until 2008

US cablenet Bravo has agreed a deal involving Lantern Entertainment that will see it once again air reality show Project Runway, which has been on Lifetime for the past decade.

The show’s future on the A+E Networks channel was thrown into doubt last year following the allegations against Harvey Weinstein, founder of The Weinstein Company (TWC), which oversaw the show.

A&E ended its agreement for the show with TWC earlier this year, leaving NBCUniversal-backed Bravo, which aired the show’s first five seasons until 2008, to make its move.

It is unclear whether the show’s producer on Lifetime, Bunim-Murray Productions, will be involved in the rebooted Bravo series. Tinopolis-owned US prodco Magical Elves previously produced the format for Bravo before it moved.

The deal for the 17th season is subject to Lantern closing its deal to acquire assets from TWC, after it won approval for its bid from the Delaware bankruptcy court earlier this month.

The arrangement also allows for further Project Runway spin-offs and other unscripted formats to be developed together.

Frances Berwick, president of lifestyle networks for NBCU Cable Entertainment, said: “Leaning into the creative process in an entertaining way has always been part of Bravo’s DNA, and Project Runway perfectly captures that.”
