Australia’s 7Productions will make two further specials spun-off from its evergreen Seven Network drama Home and Away for subscription VoD service Presto.

The first special, Home and Away: An Eye for an Eye, premiered on Presto last December, resulting in a spike in subscribers for the streamer co-owned by Foxtel and SevenWest Media.

Presto, which does not reveal subscription figures, is said to be lagging behind Netflix’s Australian feed and Stan, the co-venture between Nine Entertainment and Fairfax Media.

Scripts are being developed for the two new specials, as yet untitled, and production will begin soon. Both will premiere on Presto later this year.

wolf_creekPresto CEO Shaun James said: “This exciting news continues Presto’s ongoing commitment to providing Australian streamers with exclusive premium local content. In its first 24 hours, Home and Away: An Eye for an Eye broke through all day one streaming records on Presto, both complementing and extending Australia’s most-loved TV drama.”

In another development, Foxtel today unveiled deals with six English Premier League (EPL) clubs to help offset the loss of EPL rights to telco Optus, which nabbed the rights for three years, starting with the 2016-17 season, for a reported A$50m (US$37m) per year.

Chelsea TV, Liverpool’s LFCTV and Manchester United’s MUTV will be included in Foxtel’s sports pack at no extra cost from July 1. In addition, there will be programming blocks from Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

The deals secure all home and away EPL matches from the six teams. Games played on Saturday afternoon London time will screen on delay at 13.00 Sunday Australian Eastern time.

The new networks will join the BeIN Sports channels, which will launch on Foxtel on May 14, screening UEFA European competitions, Spain’s La Liga and South American football.
