Pop ventures up Schitt’s Creek

US cablenet Pop has picked up new Eugene Levy comedy Schitt’s Creek from ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE).

The 13×30’ series will become the first original scripted comedy series to land on Pop, which will be rebranded from TVGN next year.

The series will premiere on its commissioning broadcaster, Canada’s CBC, on January 13 next year and Pop is also expected to air the show in early 2015.

The deal comes after ITVSGE brought the show’s co-creators and stars, Eugene and Daniel Levy, to Mipcom to launch the series to the international market.

Schitt’s Creek, made by Not A Real Company Productions for CBC, is about a rich video store magnate forced to relocate his family to a little town he once bought. The series co-stars Catherine O’Hara.

Pop, currently known as TVGN or TV Guide Network, is set to launch in 2015.
