Poldark sets sail for Asia

Period drama Poldark is sold by ITV Studios Global Entertainment

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has acquired a number of shows for its global streaming services including ITV hit Liar and BBC’s Poldark.

The series, from distributors All3Media International and ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE) respectively, will premiere on BBC First and BBC Player platforms in Asia in the first quarter of 2018.

Psychological thriller Liar, written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing), stars Ioan Gruffudd and Joanne Froggatt as a man and woman whose date together goes on to have far-reaching consequences for them and their families.

Seasons one to three of ITVSGE’s period drama Poldark, which follows the adventures of Captain Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) as he returns to Cornwall after the American War of Independence, debuted on the two services in December.

Other All3 titles acquired for BBC First and BBC Player are detective drama Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime; Hawking, a biographical film about noted theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking’s early years as a doctoral student; and crime dramas Inspector George Gently (seasons five to eight) and Midsomer Murders (seasons 19 and 20).

Along with Poldark, BBCWW has acquired seasons one and two of Victoria from ITVSGE, the drama depicting the reign of Queen Victoria.

The series will air on BBC First in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, and on BBC Player, which is available to StarHub and TMNet subscribers, in Singapore and Malaysia.
