Pinewood joins SVT’s Jordskott

Jordskott

Jordskott debut on SVT in February 2015

London-based Pinewood Television has joined the second season of Swedish drama Jordskott as a coproducer.

The first season of the 10×60’ show, from Palladium Fiction, premiered on Swedish pubcaster SVT in February 2015 and followed the disappearance of a child in the small community of Silverhöjd.

Now, Pinewood is attached to eight new episodes, with shooting underway in Stockholm for a second season debut this autumn.

The move comes after former SVT head of drama Christian Wikander, who oversaw Jordskott at the broadcaster, joined Pinewood last year as coproduction director.

He has been replaced at SVT by Anna Croneman, who was appointed programme director for drama and film in November.

Wikander’s remit at Pinewood Television is to devise a coproduction strategy outside the UK, working with prodcos, broadcasters and OTT providers to develop, produce and finance high-end drama series.

An English-language version of Jordskott had been picked up for development by Amazon in the US but has since been passed over. The original, distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE), has sold around the world including to ITV Encore in the UK.

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has more recently taken an undisclosed minority stake in Palladium, which is led by Henrik Björn, Filip Hammarström and Johan Rudolphie, and now distributes the prodco’s shows around the globe. ITVSGE, however, will continue to sell Jordskott internationally.

SPT has been increasing its global drama footprint over recent years, having taken a US$64m stake in Left Bank back in 2012. In June it took a minority stake in fledgling UK drama producer Blueprint Television.

Sony’s international network of AXN channels has also linked up with Pinewood Television to develop a slate of scripted originals for the global market. These will air on Sony’s AXN networks across Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
