PBS shifts sand doc globally

A documentary about the growing issue of sand smuggling has been sold to broadcasters across the world by PBS’s distribution arm.

Sand Wars (1×52’/1×75′) shows how high demand for sand in construction and industry is depleting the planet’s reserves, with beaches in decline due to erosion and sand smuggling.

In Europe, the doc has now been taken on by TSR and SRF in Switzerland, SVT in Sweden, Austrian pubcaster ORF, RSI in Italy and TVE in Spain. Further afield, PTS in Taiwan and Télé‐Québec in Canada have also picked it up.

The doc is a French-Canadian coproduction made originally for Franco-German broadcaster Arte by La Compagnie des Taxi-Brousse, Rappi Productions and InformAction Films. It is distributed by PBS International.
