PBS explores Walt Disney

A four-hour film exploring the life and legacy of Walt Disney is amongst the new programming on US pubcaster PBS’s slate for 2015.

Walt Disney (2×120′) will feature rare archival footage from the Disney vaults alongside interviews with animators and artists who worked on features such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The programme will air next year as part of PBS’s American Experience documentary series and will be directed and produced by Sarah Colt (Henry Ford) and written by Mark Zwonitzer (JFK).

Elsewhere, PBS has picked up the fourth season of the BBC drama Call the Midwife, from BBC Worldwide. The series, produced by Neal Street Productions and set in a London hospital during the 1950s, will return to the US pubcaster on March 29.

PBS has also commissioned The Brain with Dr David Eagleman (working title, 6×60′), which explains how humans function on a day-to-day basis.

Presented by author and neuroscientist Eagleman, it will begin airing next year as part of PBS’ Think Wednesday line-up of science and nature programming.

Previously announced factual drama The Roosevelts: An Intimate History (7×120′), directed by Ken Burns, will premiere on PBS on September 14.

The entire 14 hour series will be available online to stream through PBS stations’ video sites and PBS station branded digital platforms, including Roku, Apple TV and Xbox, for two weeks from September 29.
