Paramount wakes up to dormitory comedy

US studio Paramount Digital Entertainment has lined up Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect) to direct a new comedy series set in a college dormitory.

Resident Advisors will be produced by Paramount in association with Brownstone Productions, founded by Banks and Max Handleman who will both exec produce alongside Ira Ungerleider (Friends).

The show, which has not yet been picked up, follows advisors working in the dormitory as they try to provide advice to students living away from home for the first time.

Paramount Digital has previously produced The Hotwives of Orlando as well as short-form comedy series Burning Love, which was available on Yahoo and E!, while Banks and Handelman worked on Pitch Perfect for Universal.

The Hollywood studio last year appointed its head of digital entertainment Amy Powell to oversee the firm’s fledgling television arm in a bid to revive the company’s small-screen activities by financing and developing cross-platform content.
