Pac-Man set for 3D TV debut

US toon house 41 Entertainment (41e) has gained worldwide distribution rights to a new stereoscopic 3D television series based on iconic arcade game Pac-Man.

Pac-Man owner Namco Bandai Games has appointed New York-, London- and Barcelona-based 41e to sell the series, Pac-Man 3D (26×26′), ahead of a projected broadcast launch in fall 2013.

The show comes from Arad Productions’ Avi Arad (Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk) and Biker Mice From Mars creator Rick Ungar, with Tom Ruegger (Scooby-Doo, Animaniacs) and Paul Rugg (Animaniacs) attached to pen the script.

“In our show, our ghosts come in all shapes and sizes – creature-like ghosts that make for an endless world of escapades,” said Arad.

“We are planning to invest more than US$15m in the production and launch a major toy program worldwide,” added Namco Bandai Games’ chief operating officer Shin Unozawa.

41e’s US-based CEO Allen Bohbot said Pac-Man would not be “publicly exhibited” at Mip Jr next week but would be screened in 3D “privately for major clients” at Mipcom.

It’s not the first Pac-Man TV series, as Namco partnered with Hannah-Barbera to create one in the 1980s.
