Oz, Germany assemble Lego Masters

Lego Masters was originally ordered by Channel 4

Networks in Australia and Germany have become the first to order local versions of UK format Lego Masters.

Nine Network’s version is being produced by Endemol Shine Australia, while RTL in Germany has ordered its show from Endemol Shine Germany.

Endemol Shine Group (ESG) holds format rights outside the UK and rights to all finished programming, including the UK show.

The show was created by UK prodco Tuesdays Child and launched on Channel 4 in the UK last summer, winning an average audience of two million viewers. An extended second season will air on C4 later this year.

Lisa Perrin, ESG’s CEO of creative networks, described the show as “a hugely fun and family-friendly format and we expect it to engage Australian and German viewers and other markets in the way in which it has done in the UK.”

The format pits eight pairs of builders against each other as they attempt to impress with their creativity, design and flair. The shows will air on RTL in Germany later this year and on Nine and on-demand service 9Now in Australia in 2019.

In related news, ESG’s CEO Sophie Turner Laing has been awarded the 2018 International Emmy Directorate Award. The award will be presented at the 46th International Emmy Awards Gala on November 19 in New York City.

Before taking up her current role in 2014, Turner Laing was MD of content at Sky in the UK and before that worked for the BBC and jointly set up HIT Entertainment in 1989.

“Sophie Turner Laing’s career is exemplary in every respect,” said Bruce L Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

“From co-founding HIT Entertainment in 1989, to leading roles at the BBC, Sky and now Endemol Shine, she has time and time again made her mark on our industry.”
