OTF veteran takes Factory job

Factual specialist Factory Media has named an Off The Fence (OTF) veteran as its director of rights and distribution.

Bo Stehmeier

Bo Stehmeier will lead and develop Factory Media’s rights and content distribution business and secure branded-content sales via relationships between broadcasters, producers and brands.

Reporting to MD Darryl Newton, Stehmeier will also take a seat on the Factory Media board.

His appointment comes a day after it was announced he was leaving OTF where he was the international documentary producer and distributor’s MD of distribution.

He previously held head of sales positions at Optomen International and Bullseye TV, a company that was acquired by Zodiak Rights.

“My remit at Factory Media is to build a classic distribution operation – to appoint a sales team and manage a budget to acquire and finance programming,” said Stehmeier.

“But that’s where the classic bit ends. Factory Media has the resources, infrastructure, flexibility and multi-disciplined approach needed to control the entire distribution cycle, regardless of platform, format, brand and financial model. It is in my view what future content houses will be aspiring to be – and I’m helping to lead the way.”

He will work with ex-Bullseye colleague Dee Smith, Factory Media’s director of content, and commercial director Nick Bradley.

Stehmeier will also develop an international strategy to exploit the company’s approach to content production and distribution across linear, digital and social channels. He is charged with incubating production finance with brands and exploiting other off-air opportunities.

Stehmeier’s appointment comes a month before the UK broadcast of Factory Media’s first-ever branded-content commission, for The Unbreakables (12×30’), due to debut on UKTV’s Dave channel on October 4.
