OMNI renews original trio

Canadian multilingual and multicultural broadcaster OMNI has renewed three of its original series for new seasons.

The network has greenlit new episodes of Blood & Water (8×30′), Mangoes (6×30′) and Second Jen (6×30′).

Currently in various stages of development, the episodes are slated to air in 2018, with additional broadcast details to be announced at a later date.

Blood & Water is a thriller that follows a woman who returns to Canada after meeting her biological family, who have a shady history, in China.

Mangoes, meanwhile, features dialogue in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and English and tells the story of a group of Canadian South Asian 20-somethings. It was created by and stars brothers Adeel Suhrwardy and Khurram Suhrwardy.

Second Jen is a female-driven comedy from creators and stars Amanda Joy and Samantha Wan. It focuses on two second-generation Chinese and Filipino-Canadian millennials living in Toronto.

“We remain committed to delivering compelling, world-class Canadian content to our viewers that not only entertains but also reflects the diverse communities we serve,” said Nataline Rodrigues, director of original programming at OMNI parent Rogers Media.
