October hires for new US office

UK indie October Films has taken on an executive from Raw TV to lead its factual production in the US.

Chris Muckle is joining the firm as head of US factual having spent the past three years at Raw developing and editing shows for US broadcasters including Gold Rush, Jungle Gold and Unexplained Files.

Muckle will be based at the company’s New York office, which opened last month, and work alongside creative director Matt Robins and the rest of the team.

His appointment follows the arrival of Jos Cushing as executive producer.

Over the past three years, October has doubled its turnover and trebled the amount of hours it produces annually. A significant proportion of this has come from growing commissions from US broadcasters and international cablenets, as well as its core UK clients.

Recent successes include Obsession: Dark Desires on Investigation Discovery, which is now into a second season; Outrageous Acts of Science, for Discovery Science; and Operation Stonehenge: What Lies Beneath, a coproduction by BBC2, CBC, France 5, ZDF, SBS and Smithsonian.
