Fox International Channels (FIC) is preparing to launch its Fox Sports HD channel in Greece.

The network will be available exclusively through Forthnet’s pay TV service Nova TV and will feature the European feed of Fox Sports. There are no plans for local content production at present.

A launch date is yet to be announced but the move follows the channel’s launch in Cyprus on pay TV platform Cytavision on September 30.

Katerina Kaskanioti, Forthnet’s platform and content executive director, said: “We are delighted to extend our already successful partnership with Fox International Channels Greece by making available yet another channel of international prestige to our subscribers.”

Despite Forthnet’s lingering financial troubles, Nova TV is still the leading subscribers’ TV service in Greece, followed closely by rival OTE TV.

Sports content and championship broadcast rights are one of the main areas of competition among Greek pay TV services. In summer 2014, competitors OTE TV and Wind Hellas, along with Vodafone Group Services, had submitted non-binding offers to acquire Forthnet.
