No Offence gets second run on C4

UK broadcaster Channel 4 has ordered a second season of Shameless scribe Paul Abbott’s police comedy drama No Offence, the first season of which ends its run today.

The series, about a team of police officers charged with keeping law and order on a housing estate in the UK city of Manchester, has been given another 8×60’ order and will return to C4 next year.

Abbott, whose credits also include State of Play, will continue to write alongside Paul Tomalin, Mark Greig and Jimmy Dowdall.

The show is produced by the scribe’s own company AbbottVision and was commissioned by C4 head of drama Piers Wenger.

FremantleMedia International picked up distribution rights recently and the show has already been sold to broadcasters including ABC in Australia and Denmark’s DR.

In related news, C4 is gearing up for the release of its version of Danish format Married At First Sight, from Red Arrow International’s Snowman Productions, adapted by UK sibling CPL Productions.

Ordered last year and already the subject of adaptations including a US version for A+E Networks’ FYI, a Swedish one for SVT and Australian remake for Nine Network, C4’s take on the series will debut this summer.
