Nicole Kidman teams with Amazon

Australian actor and producer Nicole Kidman has signed a first-look agreement with Amazon Studios that includes TV, feature films and digital content.

Kidman’s Blossom Films production shingle will develop series that will be exclusively available on Amazon Prime Video, as well as movies for theatrical release.

Blossom Films was set up by Kidman with Per Saari and is one of the companies behind HBO hit Big Little Lies, which stars Kidman. The prodco has been working on the second season of the show, which picked up eight Emmys, including Outstanding Limited Series, last year. It has also produced notable feature films including Rabbit Hole and The Family Fang.

The first-look deal with Kidman is the latest in a string of agreements that have seen global streamers link up with top talent from the world of TV and film. Netflix began the trend by tapping Shonda Rhimes from ABC and Ryan Murphy from 20th Century Fox Television, while The Handmaid’s Tale’s Bruce Miller signed with Hulu/MGM last month.

Amazon recently agreed a similar deal with Get Out director Jordan Peele as it continues to sign top-name talent to gain an advantage over its streaming rivals.

The arrangement with Peele includes his Monkeypaw Productions label, which is already working with Amazon on a docuseries based on the notorious couple the Bobbits.

Last month, Amazon also gave a straight-to-series order for a drama led by Peele about people who hunt Nazis in America. The Hunt consists of 10 episodes and Peele is executive producing the show under Monkeypaw.
