Nickelodeon in the US has greenlit 20 episodes of a social media-influenced animated comedy series about an infectiously positive hotdog.

Pinky Malinky follows a hotdog living in a human world who, along with his two best friends, navigates school and life with a unique perspective.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, the series is scheduled to premiere in 2016. The character’s experiences will also be shared across social media and Nickelodeon’s digital platforms.

It was co-created by Chris Garbutt and Rikke Asbjoern (The Amazing World of Gumball) and will be executive produced by the pair alongside Scott Kreamer (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness).

“In this fast-paced digital age, the online extensions in this brand-new series are another example of how Nickelodeon meets the needs of our kids who want to access content anytime and everywhere,” said Russell Hicks, president of content development and production at Nickelodeon.
