Nickelodeon in the US has acquired preschool animation Wissper ahead of its debut on fellow Viacom-owned network Channel 5 (C5) in the UK.

The 52×7′ series is the first original commission from C5 to be picked up by Nickelodeon in the US since Viacom completed its takeover of the UK free-to-air channel last year.

Nick Jr is set to air the series in 2016 following the deal with the show’s distributor M4E in Germany.

The series is a coproduction between Absolutely Cuckoo in the UK, Telegael in Ireland, Discreet Art Productions in India, Germany’s Bastei Media and M4E.

It centres on a young girl with the ability to communicate with animals and was pitched by Absolutely Cuckoo, the UK prodco behind Waybuloo, at Cartoon Forum in 2013.

The first 26 episodes are due to be available by end of this year, while the remainder set to arrive by spring 2016.
