Nick to revive Double Dare

US children’s broadcaster Nickelodeon is to revive one of its iconic gameshows, with 40 new episodes due this summer.

Double Dare originally premiered on the Viacom-owned channel in 1986 and ran until 1993, making it the network’s longest-running gameshow. It became one of the most popular original daily programmes on cable television during that time.

The series went into syndication in 1988 and was revamped as Super Sloppy Double Dare in 1989. The show also ran on broadcast television as Family Double Dare in 1988, followed by new versions on Nick, including Double Dare 2000.

Double Dare features two teams competing to win prizes by answering trivia questions, completing messy, physical stunts and facing an obstacle course that includes a human hamster wheel.
