Nick Jr Play app goes down under

The Nick Jr Play app offers preschoolers Nick Jr content

The international arm of Nickelodeon’s owner Viacom has partnered with pay TV firm Foxtel and OTT platform Fetch to launch its Nick Jr Play app in Australia.

Nick Jr Play offers preschoolers access to Nick Jr shows, games and music including full episodes, educational games and original videos based on programming such as Paw Patrol and Nella The Princess Knight.

The app is the latest addition to Viacom Play Plex, a suite of mobile apps for each of Viacom’s major brands, including Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and BET.

Nick Play launched with Foxtel in 2015, while Nick Jr Play will be available later this year.

Ben Cox, VP and general manager of Nickelodeon Networks Australia and New Zealand, said: “Nick Jr Play will also provide Foxtel and Fetch subscribers access to a safe environment featuring characters their children already know and love at no additional cost.”

In related news, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) has expanded its collaboration with Solar Entertainment Corp in the Philippines to launch 24-hour music channel MTV Classic in the local market.

The network, which celebrates music legends from the 1980s to the 2000s, will enter Asia on Agilasat, Solar Digital’s TV platform, on May 2.

The launch of MTV Classic follows the initial collaboration between VIMN and Solar to launch MTVph in the Philippines last year.
