Nice move for SVT’s Baron

Helsinki-based Nice Entertainment Group has poached a veteran executive from Swedish public broadcaster SVT to run its global coproduction efforts.

Stefan Baron takes up the role of head of international coproductions at Nice, where his remit will include international financing of the group’s drama projects and long-term international collaborations. He will also serve as an exec producer for the firm’s drama efforts.

The appointment follows Modern Times Group’s acquisition of Nice in 2013 and the rebranding of its MTG Studios arm as Nice Entertainment Group in March.

Baron will work across the division’s production labels, which include Strix Television, Nice Drama and Moskito.

He was most recently a coproduction exec at SVT Drama and has held various senior positions at SVT over the past 20 years, including head of drama at SVT Stockholm.

Mikael Wallén, CEO of scripted at Nice, said Baron’s “extensive experience in developing, financing and producing drama” would enable the firm to expand its drama projects with both its Scandinavian and international partners.

Baron added: “It feels great and challenging to ‘switch sides’ and get the opportunity to work with a variety of broadcasters and aggregators with different needs.

“Nice Entertainment Group’s drama companies have many exciting projects in the pipeline and I look forward to being a part of the coming years’ productions and content development.”
