NGCI greenlights three specials

National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has commissioned three historical coproductions including a three-part special on the growth of Christianity in Roman times.

Jesus: The Rise to Power is being coproduced in partnership with Sky Vision in the UK and will premiere in the US at the end of this month.

The programme is fronted by Roman history expert Dr Michael Scott who visits the deserts and cities of the ancient world to reveal the historical events that shaped Christianity.

NGCI is also set to air Bones of The Buddha (1×60’) and Ultimate Tutankhamun (1×120’) in the summer. From London-based indie Blink Films, the film blends forensic investigation with reconstructions and CGI to examine the cause of death and various myths and legends around the Boy King.

Bones of the Buddha, produced by Bristol-based Icon Films, looks at whether bones and jewels discovered in Northern India in 1898 was indeed the final resting place of the Buddha or just an elaborate hoax.
