National Geographic Channel (NGC) is preparing a series in which 20 people will attempt to replicate Africa’s gruelling wildebeest migration.

Mygrations (6×60′) will premiere on NGC in the US in spring before airing globally on NGC in 171 countries and 45 languages, as well as the Spanish-language network Nat Geo Mundo.

Produced by UK-based October Films, it follows a ‘human herd’ attempting to complete the world’s most famous animal migration across Africa.

The group must use their expert survival skills to navigate without a map or compass alongside 1.3 million wildebeest on a physically and mentally punishing 200-mile, six-week journey through the Serengeti to the Mara River.

The group will include ex-special forces personnel, survivalists, athletes and zoologists, NGC said.

National Geographic Global Networks recently made further changes to its senior leadership team, handing new roles to Tim Pastore and Hamish Mykura, among others.

Pastore, NGC’s global president of original programming and production, said the series “truly embraces National Geographic’s pillars of exploration and adventure.”
