NFI backs more Lilyhammer

The Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) has allocated NOK3m (US$490,000) to help fund a third season of mobster-comedy series Lilyhammer.

The fish-out-of-water show, created by Anne Bjørstad and Eilif Skodvin, is close to receiving an order for another 8×45’ episodes, according to the NFI.

Under the deal, Anders Tangen will again produce for Rubicon TV while US streaming giant Netflix and Norwegian pubcaster NRK will remain as coproducers. Netflix will remain the US outlet, with Red Arrow International the global distributor.

Season two of Lilyhammer, which kicked off on NRK1 on October 23 and attracted an audience of 922,000, is set to debut this Friday on Netflix in Denmark, the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, the Netherlands and Latin America.

Lilyhammer, which tells the story of a New York mobster who moves to the Norwegian town of Lillehammer under a witness protection programme, broke viewing records when it launched on NRK in January 2012.
