MTV UK poaches BBC's Brookman MTV Networks UK and Ireland has hired BBC Vision head of fiction and children's Vanessa Brookman as VP of programming. Brookman takes over from David Booth, who was promoted earlier this year to the position of international VP of content and programming. She joins the Viacom-owned company in November, having been at the Beeb since 2008, when C21 revealed that the pubcaster was poaching her from Five. Brookman was controller of acquisitions for Five and prior to that worked at Channel 4 as deputy editor of US series. In her new role she will strategy, scheduling, commissioning and acquisitions across the MTVN UK channel bouquet. "Vanessa will make an excellent addition to our team," said MTVN UK director of TV Kerry Taylor. "She will bring the benefit of some fantastic experience gained across both terrestrial and multi-channel roles to the MTV UK portfolio." In related news, MTV Networks UK & Ireland has acquired NBC comedy Community to air on its Freeview entertainment channel Viva!. The show - which stars Joel McHale, Chevy Chase and Alison Brie as a band of misfits at the fictitious Greendale Community College - is on its second season stateside, and will air on Viva! from October. 29 Jul 2010 © C21 Media 2010 |
