Gervais podcasts return to UK as toon series
The Ricky Gervais audio shows that first appeared on XFM radio in the UK in 2001 and were later turned into podcasts by Guardian Unlimited have been adapted into an animated series and sold to a UK broadcaster.
 Channel 4 has acquired the 13-part series (left), which has been adapted from the original radio shows by US-based Media Rights Capital and animation house Wildbrain. It is distributed internationally by Lionsgate Entertainment.
The show, titled simply The Ricky Gervais Show though it also features Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchant, is expected to air on Channel 4 in March 2010.
The show will also air stateside on HBO on February 19, 2010, under a previous deal. MRC said the podcasts had clocked up over 180 million downloads, though they are no longer available via Guardian Unlimited.
