Easton Ellis teams with HBO for The Follower American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction scribe Bret Easton Ellis is teaming up with premium cable network HBO and Lionsgate Television to adapt a stalker novel from crime writer Jason Starr. The dark social satire, entitled The Follower, is not so different to Easton Ellis's own novels and chronicles the dating lives of a group of 20-something New Yorkers seen through the eyes of a stalker. Published last year, the New York Daily News called the book a "chilling yet humorous tale of obsession." The Follower will be exec produced by Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum, according to US trade paper Variety, alongside Vertigo Films partners Doug Davison and Roy Lee, and Media Talent Group's Geyer Kosinski. Vertigo's Gabriel Mason is co-exec producer and Steven Schneider is associate producer. Vertigo has a first-look deal with Lionsgate. The news follows Easton Ellis striking a deal with film director Gus Van Sant on a script based on Vanity Fair article The Golden Suicides by Nancy Jo Sales. It tells the story of New York artists and lovers Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake, who made a suicide pact and ended their lives within days of each other in 2007.Jules Grant 30 Oct 2009 © C21 Media 2009 |
