Discovery adds to immigration debate Discovery en Espanol has created a fast-turnaround doc looking at the fierce immigration debate currently being waged across the US, marking the US Hispanic group's first original production. Premiering on Sunday May 21, Objetico: El Norte examines all sides of the immigration debate, interviewing those who risk their lives crossing the sweltering Sonora desert, known as the 'Corridor of Death,' as well as the opponents who see immigrants as invaders who are taking away jobs that should go to Americans. "We are committed to providing thought-provoking programming that consistently speaks to the issues that matter most to US Hispanics," said Luis Silberwasser, senior VP and general manager of Discovery Networks US Hispanic Group, who added that the special is designed to encourage further discussion about immigration issues, Objetico: El Norte is produced by New World Video Productions. In other Discovery news, Deborah London-Harrington has been named as director of production management for Discovery's networks in the UK, Europe and Asia. London-Harrington will be charged with establishing and maintaining standard production policies in the region, as well as handling all production management for those offices. Prior to joining Discovery she was director of channels programming for National Geographic Channel and National Geographic Channels International. Jo Anne Kenny 11 May 2006 © C21 Media 2006 |
