Hulu hires Larcher for expansion

Hulu has poached Johannes Larcher from search engine company Overture as its senior VP of international, charged with leading the video portal's expansion efforts outside the US.

Prior to joining Fox/NBC joint venture, Larcher (left) served in a number of internationally focused roles, including general manager of international at Overture, where he led the international business from initial concept definition to market leadership in 12 countries across Europe and Asia, prior to its acquisition by Yahoo! in 2003.

He also served as international VP and general manager for social networking site Friendster, and worked on now-defunct betting site Pikum. Larcher takes over international scouting duties from Hulu's senior VP of content acquisition and distribution Andy Forsell, who remains with the company.

The move is the latest step in Hulu's bid to launch internationally. C21 revealed last October that Hulu had been in talks with now-defunct UK video-on-demand project Kangaroo over a possible UK launch. Last month, CBS's TV.com - a key Hulu rival - announced it was opening up some of its online video to international audiences.
