Inuk, Move Networks join forces

UK–based IPTV broadcaster Inuk Networks and US online TV streaming specialist Move Networks have formed a partnership they claim will revolutionise web TV.

Inuk will integrate Move Networks' video publishing system, including Move Simulcode and Move Adaptive Stream, with its Igloo Freewire set–top–box solution.

The companies claim the move will offer content owners high–definition, instant start and an electronic TV guide using keyboard or IR/Bluetooth remote, on–screen overlays and picture–in–picture features.

The deal follows software giant Microsoft's undisclosed investment in Move Networks, which in April raised US$46m in third–round funding, with contributions coming from Comcast Communications, Benchmark Capital, Televisa, Cisco Systems and Disney–affiliated Steamboat Ventures.

Move counts ABC, Discovery, ESPN, Fox and The CW among its existing broadcast clients, which rely on the firm for its expertise in delivering HD online TV services.

The news also reaffirms Inuk's desire to expand into the US IPTV market.

"We looked at numerous peer–to–peer and traditional streaming solutions to provide an internet delivery solution for our Igloo PC solution but it's impossible to replicate a true TV experience if you have buffering every time you channel surf," said Marcus Liassides, CEO of Inuk Networks.

"Move Networks' technology changes that and together we are taking internet television to the next level by merging the best of the traditional and new online television worlds."
