Arrested Development gets multi-platform deal Fox Entertainment Group, MSN, HDNet and gaming channel G4 are giving dysfunctional family series Arrested Development a second shot at success by airing all three seasons simultaneously on high-definition television, online and basic cable. HDNet will have an exclusive three-year HD TV window for the series, produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine Entertainment, while MSN has picked up the exclusive portal rights to syndicate the show online for the same period. Also as part of the deal, MSN will produce and launch a range of interactive entertainment elements to build a community for the often ferociously devoted fans of the Bluth family. G4, meanwhile, has acquired the basic cable rights for the series for three years, starting in October. The critically acclaimed and award-winning series ran for three years on Fox, yet was often ratings-challenged. The series revolves around Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) who is doing his best to keep his offbeat family from falling apart after its patriarch is jailed for fraud. Commenting that this is the first time that a series has been licensed to three platforms simultaneously, president of Fox Digital Media Peter Levinsohn said the deal was a "testament to the explosion of the after-market for high-end content," and said Fox is actively developing this new arena. In another area of Fox's new media strategies, its Fox Atomic theatrical and digital content company has teamed up with user-generated site StupidVideos.com. The latter will provide content for the Fox Atomic interactive broadband channel, which launched in beta form last week. Specifically, StupidVideos.com will supply content for video mash-up feature The Blender, which allows users to edit footage from the division's new releases as well as the viral videos provided by Stupid.
