GSN to screen Worldwide Web Games Liberty Media, joint owner of US gaming channel GSN, is drawing on the 51% stake it took in online games specialist Fun Technologies earlier this year to televise the Worldwide Web Games. GSN will fly competitors who make it through qualifying stages on Fun's own sites and those of its partners, such as AOL, MSN and Virgin Games, to Los Angeles to take part in the live semifinals and final in September. A US$1m prize is up for grabs, plus an additional US$10,000 in a bonus round in the final featuring GSN's word-guessing gameshow Lingo, a version of which was licensed for use on Fun's SkillJam site last year. Liberty sealed its share in Fun earlier this year with a US$50m investment, having announced the deal last November. The company plans to use its stake in Fun to add games and other online elements to its catalogue of brands. Liberty jointly owns GSN with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
