Cartoon Network calls for Code Lyoko MIPCOM NEWS: French toon producer/distributor MoonScoop has announced production of a further 45 episodes of hit animation series Code Lyoko for Cartoon Network. Launched in 2003, the 2D and 3D action animated series was first coproduced with free-to-air pubcaster France 3 and cabsat channel Canal J. It went on to become one of the top animated shows on France 3, and was voted best show on Canal J by viewers in an online poll. A second season (26 x 30') resumed last month on both French channels. Code Lyoko also airs on FTA and cabsat channels across Europe, including the UK, Spain and Italy, US, Canada, Latin America, Africa and India. Due in September 2006, season three will be accompanied by a major merchandising campaign to cover a broad range of licensed products, including toys, clothes, stationary, school bags and a Code Lyoko game on the Nintendo DS platform. Moonscoop has signed FUNimation Entertainment as the exclusive licensing agent in the US, with Marvel Toys holding the worldwide master toy licence. The latest deal with Cartoon Network gives the series a total of 97 episodes. In other news for MoonScoop, French pubcaster France 2 has signed up as co-developer on My Teen Genie, the new teen live action fantasy series from MoonScoop's joint production venture with UK indie prodco Talent TV. The drama series follows the life and adventures of a 16-year-old girl, Jaz, and a young genie that inhabits her mobile phone. Talent Kids director Annie Miles and MoonScoop executive producer Maia Tubiana will both executive-produce the series. The series debuted at Mipcom Jnr last week, with the duo now in talks with several broadcasters in Cannes over more presales.
